Spring is Springing!
After a very long winter, setting records for snow accumulation and frigid temps ~ we are happy to share that Spring is Springing in Wisconsin!
We have been busy here on the homestead getting ready for the upcoming season. Many, many seeds have been sown and the possibilities seem endless! Non gardeners may know that seed starting can start as early as Feburary with certain things, like onions. With months of coddling little plants, it is incredilbly exciting to see temps on the rise. We are growing quite a few cold crops that can handle the frost, so it is has been nice getting a chance to plant so much early in the year.
If you haven't heard yet, this year we are growing for Local Choice Cooperative Producers' CSA. This CSA is a great opportunity for local customers to enjoy healthy products while supporing 7+ small farms. Over the course of the season the shares will offer:
-50+ varieties of Fresh Vegetables
-6+ types of Fresh Fruit
-Artisan Goat Cheese
-Free-range Chicken Eggs
-A variety of cuts of pasture raised meats
-Fresh & Dried Herbs
-Canned Pickles, Jams, & Sauces
Local Choice is offering both an Omnivore Share and a Herbivore Share, but our sign up's end tomorrow, May 1st so head on over to the website if you still need to find a local CSA for the season!
Once we know how many shares we will be filling for Local Choice, we will be bringing our extra plant starts to the Spring Valley Farmers Market to offer for sale and will be getting our Roadstand up and running for the season.
Jumping in to the month of May we have a lot to get done ~ chicken tractors to make for our meat birds, more seeds to start and seedlings to get in the soil, garden beds to prep and trees to plant...not to mention homeschool is still in session! It is bound to be a wild month ~ but I'm sure we will have some fun.
We had plenty of showers in April ~ so cheers to May flowers!!
Keep an eye out for updates about of free daffodils ~ they should be ready very soon. The kids are very excited to pay it forward and put a smile on some of our neighbors faces! Who doesn't love some vibrant daffodils after a long winter?
Here is a little peek at our Spring so far!
